TOYOTA WINS BEST SAFETY TECHNOLOGY AT FIRSTCAR AWARDS 2018

The 2018 FirstCar awards were held at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London, on the 25th April 2018 in front of an invited audience from the motor and driver training industries. Toyota was awarded for the 'Best Safety Technology'. Toyota Safety Sense helps Toyota drivers feel safe and reassured behind the wheel, with a range of active safety systems designed to keep drivers and passengers out of harm. At low speeds Toyota Safety Sense can help prevent collisions entirely, while at higher speeds, it aims to lessen the severity of any impact.

Toyota Safety Sense is a great example of big-car safety features filtering down to smaller vehicles. Available on 11 out of 15 versions of the Aygo city car, this suite of safety technologies includes Autonomous Emergency Braking, which operates at speeds of up to 49mph. It also features Lane Departure Alert, to warn the driver if they are drifting out of lane without indicating, and Pre-Crash Brake Assist, which delivers full braking force as soon as the pedal is pressed in an emergency. Toyota Safety Sense is also available to Yaris buyers, and contributed to that car's five-star Euro NCAP rating.

TOYOTA SAFETY SENSE

Automatic High Beam (AHB)

Using the Toyota Safety Sense camera, AHB makes you a safer night-time driver. It detects the headlights of oncoming vehicles, the rear lights of cars in front of you, and streetlights when you’re in a built-up area, switching automatically between low and high beam. As well as letting you concentrate on other aspects of driving, it also makes you a more considerate driver.

Road Sign Assist

The Toyota Safety Sense camera is able to detect speed limit and ‘do not overtake’ signs. If you enter a 30mph zone but don’t slow down, you’ll hear an acoustic warning and see a visual warning on the cockpit display.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Toyota Safety Sense's Adaptive Cruise Control keeps you at a minimum preset distance from the vehicle in front.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Control

When the possibility of a collision with a pedestrian is detected the driver is alerted with audio and visual warnings and brake assistance is activated.
