Launching the new RAV4 Plug-in is yet another landmark for Toyota in
its evolution of hybrid powertrain technology, a car that’s both efficient and
the most powerful RAV4 to date.
With a strong reputation for innovation that has helped distinguish
the
RAV4 as one of the world’s-best-selling SUV with over 10 million models
sold across five vehicle generations since 1994 and the UK has exceeded 228,000.
World leading expertise in in Hybrid technology has allowed
Toyota to produce a vehicle that is not only more powerful, producing a maximum
302bhp/224kW, but also exceeds its rivals in terms of
fuel economy and low emissions
as well as combined cycle figures show 22g/km CO2 and 282.4mpg.
Operating as an authentic electric vehicle, EV running is
its default mode and can cover up to 61 miles in urban driving (WLTP city
cycle) on a full battery charge, and 46 miles in mixed (WLTP combined
cycle) driving, which is more than the average European daily commute
and reaching speeds of over 80mph (where permitted) without the need for the hybrid
powertrain to be in use.
With four different driving modes to choose from including an Auto EV/HV mode which automatically switches the vehicle to HV operation when additional power is required, the 2.5-litre hybrid engine comes into play and returning to EV operation when conditions allow.
The lithium-ion battery is easy and safe to re-charge within 2.5 hours using a 230 V/32 A connection and a wallbox charging unit. Type 2 cables for connection to a domestic power supply or wallbox are provided as standard. The Toyota MyT app can be sued to monitor battery charging remotely as well as controlling the air conditioning system to turn up the heat up or cool down the cabin.
All the qualities of the fifth generation RAV4 have been retained in the RAV4 Plug-In with its sophisticated and effective powertrain. Benefits such as low centre gravity- lowered further by the location of the battery pack beneath the cabin floor – and rigidity inherent from the Toyota GA-K vehicle platform. AWD-I intelligent all-wheel drive also comes as standard.
Available in two high-specification versions, RAV4 Plug-in comes in Dynamic and Dynamic Premium both of which are visually different from RAV Hybrid with dark exterior features such asmodel-specific 19-inch five-double-spoke alloy wheel, a metallic lower front bumper moulding, a dark grille mesh and frame and dark-finish front and rear under-runs.
The Dynamic version includes dual zone air conditioning operated by a remote, nine-inch multimedia touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto power tailgate, wireless phone charger, heated front and outer rear seats and Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance systems. The premium grade has additional features such black leather seat upholstery, head-up display, opening Skyview panoramic roof, front seats with power adjustment and ventilation and a nine-speaker JBL premium sound system.
