It’s hard to argue with the space on offer in a used Nisan X-Trail. There is plenty of room in the middle row of the car, even on models without the sliding option. The third row will fit the kids comfortably, while still giving you 120 litres of boot space when those are folded up. In five-seat guise the X-Trail offers 575 litres of bootspace with the seats up, 1,396 with them down. On Tekna trim the 60:40 splitting second row is upgraded to a 40:20:40 split, which makes it a touch more practical too.
You’ll also find a load of room in the front of the cabin and lots of storage too. You can easily get into a comfortable driving position, with lots of adjustment and cubbies on offer, while the full-length sunroof on higher spec versions helps the cabin feel bright and open.
The used Nissan X-Trail can come in three powertrain options: one 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and two hybrid options that use the same 1.5-litre petrol engine. The mild hybrid will do 39.9mpg, or 39.2mpg in the seven-seat form. Emissions are 161-164g/km CO2 depending on the seats you choose. If you’re after all-wheel drive, the dual-motor e4orce version can get returns of up to 43.8mpg. Emissions are increased over the front-wheel drive model, at up to 148g/km with the third row of seats.
You can have your used Nissan X-Trail in various flavours. The mild hybrid version gets its power from a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a small electric motor to boost efficiency. With 161bhp, there’s enough grunt for normal driving. Then there’s the e-Power engine that sits somewhere between the cross of normal cars and electric cars. It puts out 201bhp and with sprint from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds.
The X-Trail shine when it comes to urban roads. With more refined suspension it’s very comfortable in town, soaking up bumps impressively and allows for smooth progress. For families, long-distance driving can sometimes be difficult if the car isn’t up to the task. But the X-Trail manages to be a great car to cruise in, and intelligent cruise control fitted as standard helps to take some of the strain out of longer journeys. It’s a very comfortable car on the whole, with the open cabin feel means you don’t feel cocooned or cramped.
Inside a used Nissan X-Trail you’ll climb into an elevated driving position and peer out a broad windscreen to find you have excellent forward visibility. Pair that with Nissan’s blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors as standard, and front parking sensors and a rear-view camera with Acenta Premium trim, you’ll have an almost 360° view of the road. To aid visibility when you’re driving at night, bright LED headlights with main-beam assist come standard across the range. Tekna trim and above includes Adaptive Driving Beam, which allows you to use full beam without blinding other drivers.
Your used Nissan X-Trail infotainment is controlled through a touchscreen, which measures 8.2in with Acenta Premium trim and 12.3in with other versions. The graphics are sharp, it's easy to read, and respond quickly to your prods. On all but the entry-level version you get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring, allowing you to use Google Maps and other apps through the infotainment screen. You can add a head-up display and an upgraded Bose sound system with 10 speakers by opting for a top-of-the-range trim.
