You wait years for a new Nissan EV, then three arrive all at once. The Japanese car maker has revealed teasers for a third-generation LEAF, an all-electric Juke, and an all-new MICRA supermini.
The New MICRA is set to launch later this year - or very early 2026 - with a design that harks back to the popular curves of the Micra K11 of the early 1990s, but with modern flair. And yes, we know what you're thinking. It looks quite similar to the recently launched Renault 5, and that's because it is. It's almost identical beneath the skin as both cars are developed using the same collection of parts. Yet, don't be hasty in thinking Nissan have simply slapped their badge over the top of Renault's and called it a day. No, they have injected their own DNA to put forward a car ready to add a little more liveliness to the small city car market.
The new Micra gets a signature front bumper and alloy wheel design, plus an embossed shoulder line stretching from the front wings to the rear doors. However, some details, like the square rear end and rear door handles tucked up into the C-pillar, are noticeable inspired by the Renault 5.
Nissan’s vice president of design for Europe, Matthew Weaver, told Auto Express of the Micra plan in an exclusive interview in 2024: “The Renault 5 is a great car, and that gave us a great base. We then just had to add our DNA and that was probably the challenge [when designing the Micra]. He added: “When you look at the car you’re going to feel Micra, but you’re also going to feel Nissan, and on top of that you're going to feel a slight shift in what it’s offering.”
The New MICRA will likely be offered with 40kWh and 50kWh battery options and while an official range has yet to be confirmed, we can speculate around 190 miles for the 40kWh unit, and around 248 miles for the larger 50kWh option. 0-60 will likely fall around eight or nine seconds and charging times from 15-80 percent in about 30 minutes.
That about concludes all the information we have on the All-New MICRA. Nissan are keeping further details close to the chest but if you want to be the first to know, head here to register your interest.
