When you buy a used Kia Rio in NI you’ll find the new fourth generation design to be much larger than its predecessors — meaning more space for you. Storage inside is taken care of by some well-sized door bins, a large glovebox and a deep centre console cubby that has room for your smartphone, and there's a pair of cupholders, too. There’s plenty of space in both the front and rear seat, and the boot 325-litre boot levels up to 1,103 litres with the seats folded down.
Realistically, fuel economy will be very similar despite which version of the Rio you go for, and you can expect an average of around 45mpg. You might see one or two extra MPG from the hybrid model, but the difference in the real world will be fractional.
Under the bonnet, your used Kia Rio can come with several powertrain options. There is a choice of a pair of new 1.0-litre turbocharged three-pot petrol’s making 99bhp or 118bhp (the latter being available as a 48-volt mild hybrid), and a cheaper 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol with 83bhp. Each will take you from 0-62 in 10 seconds, 9.8 seconds and 12.7 seconds respectively.
Your used Kia Rio has a mature and refined interior with lovely finishes throughout. From 2-spec upwards you can enjoy an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, cruise control and reversing camera. The 2 also starts with 15” alloys, going up in inch increments with each upgrade. The next spec up adds heated seats and steering wheel to the mix (good for a cold day), automatic aircon and satnav, while the jump to GT-Line S adds front parking sensors, keyless go and a few smartened bits of interior trim.
The interior is very grown-up and all the main cabin functions get practical buttons amidst minimal layouts.
