Vehicle rental pick up & drop off tips

Whether you have never rented a car before or are an experienced renter, the pick up & drop off can be tricky at times. There's some items you should pay close attention to so your rental experience is nothing but positive.

Here’s a list of what you need to know before picking up & dropping off your rental vehicle. Keep an eye on these & have a great trip!

Picking up your rental vehicle

1. Booking confirmation

Once you’ve booked your rental vehicle, the first thing to pay attention to is the booking confirmation. This is where you’ll find the most important information about the booking, including date, time & location of pick up & drop off, the insurance included, all documentation required and other crucial info.

You'll also find general rules & information about your vehicle rental here, so we recommend reading it in advance.

2. Documentation

It's really important that you have all the required documents with you when picking up your rental vehicle, as this can prevent us from letting you sign the rental agreement & possibly ruin your travel plans (and we definitely don’t want that).

Generally speaking, when renting a vehicle you'll need:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Proof of address (i.e. Utility Bill) or passport (if living out of UK)
  • A credit/debit card for the security deposit (£150)

3. Car rental agreement

Upon picking up your rental vehicle you will be asked to sign the rental agreement document. This agreement specifies the terms & conditions of your rental, so please make sure to read it carefully.

Here you’ll see, for example, what happens if the rental vehicle is involved in an accident, what the insurance covers & more. So please pay attention while reading it & if you have any questions just ask a member of the rental team.

4. Security deposit

One of the most common car rental questions is about the security deposit. This is nothing more than a sum of money held by us, in case anything happens the rental vehicle during your rental period.

But don’t worry: this isn’t charged like a purchase. The security deposit is only held while the rental vehicle is with you, the full amount is refunded to you provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition as you picked it up.

5. Car inspection

It’s always good to check the rental vehicle very carefully before leaving for your trip, as any scratches & dents may be charged from you if you don’t have proof that you were not responsible for them. Speak to a member of our rental team if you have any concerns!

Leaving back your vehicle rental

1. Fuel tank

The fuel tank is an important thing to pay attention to, rental vehicles must be returned with the same amount of fuel they where let out with.

2. Car inspection

Just like you need to check the conditions of the vehicle before leaving, we'll need to be sure vehicles are returned in the same condition, with no extra dents or scratches.

We'd also appreciate the vehicle being returned reasonably clean, it’s important to make sure seats & floor are clear of dirt, fur, rubbish and anything else.

3. Receipt

When you return the vehicle we'll provide you with a receipt, this is proof that you have actually returned the vehicle, so keep it somewhere safe!
