Age restrictions when renting a vehicle!

If you’re looking into renting a vehicle for a trip or just to enjoy the sensation of driving a different vehicle, you should know there are some age requirements. This is specially important for young drivers under the age of 21, since there are some specific rules that have to be observed.

How old do you have to be to rent a vehicle?

Generally speaking, for our insurance you must be at least 21 years old to rent a vehicle. If you’re under 21, don’t panic. There are some ways to rent a vehicle even then, if you can provide your own fully comprehensive insurance then age will not be a factor. Please be aware that a 'young renter fee' of £10 a day will be added to all bookings for drivers under the age of 23.

Can you be too old to rent a vehicle?

Unfortunately, yes, the maximum age to rent a vehicle with us is 79 years old. Please contact the team for more information.

What size of vehicle can I rent?

The vehicle category you can rent is also limited according to your age & how long you have had your driver’s licence. Please be aware of below age restrictions based on vehicle category:

  • Small & medium car - 21+
  • Large car & commercial van - 25+
  • 7 & 8 seat vehicles - 25-30 (age varies depending on specific vehicle model, please contact the team for more information)
  • Minibus - 25+

What about additional drivers?

Any additional driver can be added onto our insurance for an additional charge of £8 per day, however please note the additional drivers have to obey by the same rules as the renter.
