Shelbourne Motors has taken another significant step on its journey toward a greener future with the installation of 473 solar panels at its Newry complex. The new system has a capacity of 203 kW and is expected to generate over 154,000 kWh of clean, renewable energy every year.
This sustainable investment means the Newry site will now produce more than 51% of its electricity needs through solar energy alone – the environmental impact is equivalent to planting 7,300 trees or saving 39 tons of CO₂ emissions every year.
This project reflects Shelbourne Motors’ long-standing commitment to sustainability, reducing its carbon footprint, and tackling climate change head-on. Plans are already in place to roll out further sustainable initiatives at the company’s Portadown site, ensuring both locations continue to lead the way in responsible business practices.
As the automotive industry shifts toward electrification, with strong growth in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle sales, Shelbourne Motors is determined to align its operations with this future. By reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and embracing renewables, the business is helping shape a cleaner, more sustainable automotive industry.
“At Shelbourne Motors, our dedication to sustainability is not just about reducing our own impact – it’s about leading by example,” said a Paul Ward, Director at Shelbourne Motors. “From expanding our EV offering to investing in renewable energy, we are committed to building a greener future for our customers, our communities, and our industry.”
The solar installation project was delivered in partnership with local renewable energy specialists, SolarPowerNI.
