Renault Clio has been awarded 'New Car of the Year' at the FirstCar Awards 2021

The Renault Clio has claimed the top spot after the team at FirstCar awarded it ‘New Car of the Year’ for its forward-thinking technology, outstanding affordability and enhanced safety features. As popular choice at Shelbourne Motors Renault, it comes as no surprise that the Clio has picked up this accolade.

Safety and low running costs were central in the judging criteria for this award and others vehicles that were considered for the coveted award were also graded on ease of driving, practicality and infotainment. In order to win the coveted prize of ‘New Car of the Year’ accolade in the annual awards, a car must be safe, affordable to insure and a first car any new driver would love to own.

David Motton, editor of FirstCar described the Clio as “… a new benchmark for small cars.” He went onto say “It’s exceptionally safe, as shown by its five-star rating from the safety experts at Euro NCAP. We’re also really pleased you don’t see a high spec model to benefit from the latest drivers aids- every version of the Clio comes with active emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection as standard.”

Jam packed with the latest technology; the Clio is an affordable first car for any young driver with low-cost insurance with an emphasis on safety. As a leading body in the provision of road safety education, FirstCar offers resources, expertise and practical support to over 100 authorities and organisations with their annual awards celebrating the best cars, products and services for new drivers with awards across eight categories.

The Renault Clio has been a firm favourite amongst first time drivers since it hit the roads in 1990. The latest generation launched in 2019 has the same if not more of an appeal to the new driver market. With its evolutionary exterior design coupled with features that usually are exclusive to more expensive cars, the array of safety features and completive running costs make it all the more advantageous.

A highlight of the Clio is it’s innovative and well-connected interior with it’s premium materials and latest technology including a 9.3-inch EASY LINK touch screen and TFT Driver information Display which will definitely attract young drivers. Standard safety features include Hill Start Assist, Active Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist’s detection, Emergency Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and Renault Automatic Emergency Assist.
