Renault 5 E-Tech 100% Electric - 'Best Car of the Year'

The Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Car of the Year – The New Car World Champion 2024/2025’ by the independent, not-for-profit organization Best Cars of the Year. This significant accolade was determined through a combination of public voting and assessments by an expert judging panel that includes car designers, engineers, automotive executives, and award-winning motoring journalists.

In addition to securing the top title, the all-electric Renault 5 was also named the ‘Best Electric Car 2024/2025’ in the annual awards ceremony. This recognition comes ahead of its official UK launch in early 2025. However, enthusiastic customers will be able to buy an ‘R-Pass’, giving them the opportunity to place their order 10 days before the general public.

The original Renault 5 sold 5.5 million units globally between 1972 and 1985 – and it even had an electrified version in 1974! However, the new and improved version will boast brand new features such as:

  • 18-inch wheels
  • Minimal overhangs
  • 5 vibrant colour options: Midnight Blue, Artic White, Pop Yellow, Pop Green and Diamond Black.
  • ‘Winking’ LED Headlights
  • A two-tier padded dashboard
  • A 10-inch digital instrument panel and a 10-inch multimedia screen
  • 50 apps on GooglePlay and a brand-new virtual travelling companion – ‘Reno’

Shiro Nakamura praised the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric, noting its design as a homage to the original model while pushing beyond retro-styling to embrace modern electric vehicle design through its proportions, surface details, and interior finishes. Ray Massey highlighted the car’s role in Renault's ongoing revitalization, describing it as a fun and clever vehicle that captures the spirit of the original Renault 5 while appealing to contemporary motorists. Guillaume Sicard, Managing Director of Renault UK, expressed his satisfaction with the car’s success, noting the widespread interest since its concept was first revealed. He emphasized Renault’s commitment to sustainable mobility and the emotional connection the car creates, which the award confirms.

Staying true to the 2021 concept car, the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric pays homage to its iconic predecessor while showcasing cutting-edge technology and design. Built on the all-electric AmpR small car platform, it offers agile handling and a driving range of up to 248 miles on a single charge. The Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric is expected to hit UK roads in the first quarter of 2025.
