Renault has lifted the curtain on the New Clio, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting updates in the model’s 35-year history. While it hasn’t yet arrived at Shelbourne Motors in Portadown and Newry, the reveal has given us a first look at what promises to be one of the standout cars of 2025 and beyond.
Since its debut in 1990, the Renault Clio has redefined what a small hatchback can be. Twice named European Car of the Year and with nearly 17 million units sold worldwide, it’s not just Renault’s best-seller- it’s the best-selling French car of all time. Over the years, it’s produced some iconic versions too, from the sporty Clio Williams to the legendary V6. Now in its sixth generation, the Clio continues to evolve, blending style, technology, and efficiency in ways that resonate with today’s drivers in Northern Ireland and across Europe.
The New Renault Clio is all about raising the game. It launches with two powertrains: a full hybrid E-Tech 160hp that can hit 0-62mph in just 8.5 seconds while averaging an incredible 72.4mpg, and a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 115hp, delivering solid performance alongside 56.5mpg. Boot space remains practical at up to 391 litres, making the Clio as functional as it is stylish.
The Clio has always been known for its sharp design, but the new model takes things further. A sculpted silhouette, bold front grille, and a striking LED signature give it real road presence. The body has grown slightly too, now 4.12m long and 1.77m wide, adding a more athletic stance. Customers will be able to choose from seven colours, including two new standouts: Absolute Red and Absolute Green.
Inside, Renault has dialled up the tech and sustainability. Expect premium recycled materials, customisable ambient lighting with 48 colours, and a striking dual 10-inch OpenR Link multimedia display with Google built-in. Whether it’s Google Maps for seamless navigation, Google Assistant for hands-free help, or apps via Google Play, this is Clio like you’ve never experienced before.
For those looking for efficiency without compromise, the E-Tech full hybrid 160hp delivers best-in-class CO2 emissions at just 89g/km, plus the ability to drive in electric mode up to 80% of the time in city conditions. On the other hand, the 1.2-litre TCe 115hp petrol engine gives drivers a fun, responsive drive with a 0-62mph time of 10.1 seconds and low running costs. Both options are tuned to make the most of the Clio’s agile chassis, offering comfort and confidence on both city streets and motorways.
One of the biggest leaps forward is in driver assistance. The New Clio can be equipped with up to 29 advanced driver-assistance systems - the kind of technology usually reserved for larger cars. Highlights include Active Driver Assist, a 360° camera, adaptive cruise control, and innovative safety monitoring systems like Safety Coach and Safety Score. In short, it’s smarter, safer, and more connected than ever.
The Clio has long been a favourite for drivers in Portadown, Newry, and across Northern Ireland thanks to its mix of affordability, practicality, and style. With this latest generation, it offers even more value, with the kind of hybrid efficiency and tech you’d normally expect from a larger segment. The unveiling shows that Renault isn’t just updating the Clio - it’s reimagining it for modern driving.
