Pet friendly vehicle rental

It’s time to hit the road, but our beloved pets can’t be left behind!

Is my pet allowed in the rental vehicle?

Yes! When you can't leave your dog, cat, birds or small pets behind, Shelbourne Vehicle Rental offer you the opportunity to bring them along in a reliable, pet friendly vehicle. All we ask is that the vehicle is cleaned & returned in an acceptable condition. Please make sure you let us know in advance if you plan to bring your pet, so we can explain the pet-friendly policy.

Tips for travelling with pets in rental vehicles

If you’re travelling with your family & planning to bring your pet along its important to make sure they travel safely & comfortably. Here are some tips to make their journey (and yours) even better:

1. Get them used to it

If your pet has never been on the road with you before, its recommended you take shorter journeys before a long one, just to get them used to the environment & the movement of the vehicle, as this can be a very stressful activity for newbies.

2. Prep a place they can feel safe

If you’re planning on travelling with your pet inside a crate, remember that it has to be big enough for them to stay in it for a long period of time. It might be a good idea to place some familiar items inside, such as a pillow or their favourite toy.

If you’re letting them be free inside the car, be sure to cover the area where they’ll be most of time (the backseat, for example) with a seat cover, a big blanket or something similar that’ll cover, if not all, most of the seat. This will also keep the pet hairs at bay.

3. Groom in advance

A fresh & clean pet will shed less hair & leave no smell behind. This will definitely be a great investment against a potential extra fee. If you want to go the extra mile, vacuuming the vehicle before returning it is a good option as well.

4. Stop & take driving breaks

If you are travelling for a long period of time always stop after a couple of hours driving for a nice stretch & walk for both you & your pet. Keeping water & snacks handy is also advisable.

5. Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle

Whether your travelling in summer or winter its very important that you don't leave your pet locked in your rental vehicle. Vehicles can heat up incredibly fast during the day & can cause your pet to have heatstroke, alternatively cold temperatures in winter can be just as dangerous.
